Buying a Mop / Taking Care of our Home

Today I went to maintenance to buy a mop because our mop handle broke in half the other day - back breaking work to use it like that. At maintenance, he handed me a wooden rod which was very rough. I asked him, "What about splinters?" He chuckled and said that's all they had. He also gave me a mop head and two small nails. Yikes - you mean it doesn't just screw on to the rod? Thankfully there was someone there to help me put it together. He sanded down the handle, shaved the end so that it would fit into the mop head, drilled holes, and nailed the mop head into the rod. Andrew had fun watching John put it together for us. Much different than running to Target!

And speaking of cleaning the floors, there is no vacuum. Our tools are broom, mop, dustpan, and laundry line (for hanging rugs to beat).

Thankfully I have someone to help me with these tasks. We just hired Scovia to work for us 2 1/2 days/week. She is helping with cleaning, laundry, and baking. She's got some english muffin and whole wheat dough started in the kitchen! We are delighted to have her helping us. It is customary that everyone on campus hires an inside worker and an outside worker. The community relies on us for jobs and the household help frees us up to work/minister on campus. Our outside worker is David and so far, he is coming one day/week and taking great care of our yard and all of our beautiful flowers! We are very thankful.
