Maasai Mara Safari











Chris and Sam arrived from Minnesota a week ago. They had a day to recoop from the flights and to get adjusted to a new time zone and then off we went to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. It was about a 4 hour drive from RVA. Our tour guide picked us up at RVA and we arrived at the Mara Simba Lodge in time for lunch, settling in, and our first safari drive. We spent three nights there and enjoyed six safari drives, which were early morning 6:30-8:30am and late afternoon 4-6:30pm. We saw an incredible variety of animals, including "The Big Five" (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo). In addition, we enjoyed time swimming in the pool, viewing wildlife from the lodge which was along a river, as well as visiting a Maasai manyata (village) that was close by to our lodge. (I'll post about the village visit later.) Abby and Andrew loved seeing the animals and were great travelers. Here are a few highlights of the safari drives:
